Runners should gear up for the first road run event of the year as Polokwane Athletics Club (PAC) will host the annual Seeff Road Race this Saturday.
The seventh hosting of the popular race will offer the customary 5 km fun run, 10 km for more serious athletes and, for the first time, a 21,1 km race.
“This is the first organised road race for the 2016 running year for Limpopo and we urge athletes to participate and to get into shape for a busy year,” PAC Chairperson Corrie Calitz said.
The start and finish point will be Seeff’s offices in Platinum Park with the starting time scheduled for 07:00. Water and Coca-Cola will be available at water points situated approximately every three kilometre on the route. Entries can be done at Seeff’s offices tomorrow (Friday) from 17:00 to 19:00 and on Saturday from 05:00 to 06:55. The entry fee for the fun run is R30, R50 for the 10 km and R80 for the 21,1 km race.
Medals will be given to the first 400 participants to finish the 5 km as well as the first 250 athletes to cross finish line in each of the 10 km and 21 km.
“It is important for participants in the 10 and 21,1 km races to be in possession of a permanent Athletics South Africa (ASA) licence. Temporary licences will however be sold at R30 before the start of the race,” Calitz said. For more information contact the race organiser Mike Maruma on 072 149 2674 or Calitz on 082 464 1963.
