Baroka Football Club beat the relegation-threatened Moroka Swallows 1-0 at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium last Sunday to increase their lead in the National First Division (NFD) with 38 points after 17 matches.
Former Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder Jacky Motshegwa scored the winning goal for Baroka in the second half of the match to give his team a comfortable lead at the top of the NFD table.
Technical Director of the team, Oupa Kgoadi described the match against Swallows as one of the toughest matches they have ever played in the season. “It is tough being on top because every team wants to win against you. Swallows are fighting for their lives because they are in the last position of the league. They were very conservative on the day and they did not allow us to play our normal football but we are happy that we managed to unlock their defence and eventually score that important goal,” Kgoadi said.
He also mentioned that their aim was to beat their provincial mates Black Leopards for the first time when they meet in the Limpopo derby at Thohoyandou stadium on Saturday. “We have never beaten Black Leopards since we turned professional. They eliminated us in the Nedbank Cup in 2011 and we played 0-0 draw last year and I think on Saturday we will emerge victors of the derby,” Kgoadi.
