Polokwane Athletic Club (PAC) will host the annual Modern Autohaus 4-in-1 Road Race 20 February and pre-entries for the 21,1 km and 42,2 km is already open.
PAC Chairperson Corrie Calitz said that the popular race is not only one of the oldest in Limpopo but also the biggest in number of participants in the marathon category.
“Last year approximately 1 200 runners and walkers participated in the Modern Autohaus 4-in-1 race. The marathon also serves as a qualifying race for the Comrades Marathon as well as the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon. Local athletes also use the Modern Autohaus 4-in-1 Road Race as preparation for the Comrades,” Calitz said.
This year will mark the eighth staging of the event and athletes can look forward to R22 000 worth of prize money. Participants can enter for distances of 5 km, 10 km, 21,1 km or 42,2 km and walkers are welcome in all categories except the 42,2 km.
There will also be a 60 m toddler run/crawl for children under the age of six which will start at 10:30.
All the races will start and finish at the B and C rugby fields of the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The starter’s gun will sound at 6:30 for the 21,1 km and 42,2 km races and at 6:45 for the 5 km and 10 km.
For pre-entries of the 21,1 km and 42, 2 km download the entry form at www.modernautohaus4in1.co.za or www.polokwaneathleticclub.co.za and submit with proof of payment to 4in1marathon@gmail.com.
Entry forms are also available at the Modern Autohaus reception as well as the PAC clubhouse on Wednesdays from 17:00 to 19:00. Pre entries will close tomorrow (Friday).
Entries and collection of race numbers can also be done on 17 February from 17:30 to 20:00 at the PAC clubhouse at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium as well as Friday evening before the race at the B and C rugby fields from 17:00 to 20:00 and the morning of the event from 04:30 to five minutes before the start.
The entry fee for the 5 km fun run is R30 and R50, R80 and R120 for the 10 km, 21,1 km and 42,2 km races respectively.
All athletes except for those in the 5 km must be in possession of a provincial road race licence.
Temporary licences are available at R30 before the race.
Finishers in all the races will receive a medal and the first 250 athletes to complete the marathon will receive a BMW branded cap.
