“This province has produced renowned boxers such as Baby Jake Matlala, Phillip Ndou and Cassius Baloyi. The sport is prominent in this province hence we decided that this province should be the first to host such an event,” Matiti said.
He also mentioned by staging the event they want to create a platform for the corporate world to come and invest in boxing as a sporting code so that boxers can get decent purses.
Donald Selamolela, Senior manager Youth Development in the Office of the Premier said they we are happy to host one of the major events in the boxing calendar. “It is going to be a historic moment for the province. We have never hosted eight bouts in one day and we are looking forward to the event” Selamolela said.
