With the recent very successful annual Mayoral Cycle Race still fresh in mind this weekend presents runners with an opportunity to test their fitness and skills during the Mayoral Road Race to be hosted at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
For those who have not entered yet there is still chance to do so daily from 08:00 to 16:00 at the Sports and Recreation Centre adjacent to Virgin Active. Alternatively runners can also enter on Saturday morning at the stadium from 05:00 to 05:50 as the starters gun is set to go off at 06:00.
Athletes can enter the 42,2 km, 21,1 km, 10 km or 5 km fun run. Entry fees are R140, R80, R50 and R20 respectively. A temporary licence can be obtained at the venue at R30.
More than R130 000 in prize money are up for grabs. In the 42,2 and 21,1 km open categories both the male and female winners will receive R10 000 while the second and third place finishers will receive R8 000 and R6 000 respectively.
The event is organised in collaboration with Polokwane Athletics Club (PAC) and the organisers highlighted some rules athletes have to adhere to in order not to get disqualified.
No earphones are allowed and official race numbers must be displayed on the front and permanent/temporary licence on the back of the athletes’ vest.
Category winners must be able to provide ID or birth certificate to proof age on request on the day of the race.
Winners must attend the prize giving and all winners must provide original or certified copy of ID or birth certificate or passport as well as proof of banking details.
