Despite being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by Super Sport United last Saturday, Baroka Football Club could still lift the trophy of the National First Division (NFD).
Currently on the on top of the division with 59 points the Bakgakga will face Milano United in their last match of the 2015/16 NFD season at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday when a win or draw could see could see the Ga-Mphahlele outfit win their first major title since their formation in 2007. Milano are in the fourth position of the league and if they win against Baroka they could see themselves playing in the NFD Promotional Play-offs.
“It is going to be a tough match, a different ball game because we all need three points for various reasons. They want a place in the Promotional Play-offs we need a victory to win the title. We beat them 1-0 in Cape Town in the opening round of the season and I don’t think we will lose this match,” Team Manager Oupa Kgoadi said.
He asked all soccer fans to attend the match and rally behind their team as they will be bidding farewell to the NFD. “We want their support, we want share the moment with them. Like I said the glory is not ours alone but for the people of this province. Baroka is a team for the whole province not only for the people of Ga-Maphahlele, and we want the support of everyone.”
Kgoadi further stated that they are happy to achieve such a mile stone given the number of years they have spent in the division. “We started playing in the NFD in the 2013/14 season and the plan was to compete with other teams and learn but we are glad that in that process we managed to master everything within a short space of time. We had a three year plan and one of the objectives was to win the NFD and I guess we will have to wait until Sunday,” added Kgoadi.
Asked if they have already made arrangements for the celebrations if they win or draw the match, in response Kgaodi said they will have mini celebrations if the outcome favours them.“ It is difficult to plan such because football is a funny and a cruel game .We has put everything on hold for now. But if all goes according to the plan we are going to have huge celebrations were we will also reward players for the outstanding work they have shown throughout the season,” concluded Kgoadi.
