The sixth annual Iron Crown Trail Run will be hosted by the Rotary Club of Haenertsburg in conjunction with Ofcolaco Harriers on 9 July and entries are open already.
The scenic route offers a 687 m climb from the starting point to the finish line 21,2 km further at the summit of the Iron Crown, Limpopo’s highest peak.
Rotary Club Haenertsburg Secretary Robin Gardner said the event presents a strenuous run over rough single track mountain paths
“There is also a shorter 10 km and 5 km fun run/walk for families or the less serious athletes. Participants in the fun run are also welcome to bring their dogs. The event offers more than just a challenging route as the scenery on the trail is pristine and spectacular,” Gardner said.
The start and finish point is the central market square in Haenerts-burg. Entrants in the 21,1 km will set off at 07:30 followed by the 10 km and 5 km runners every half hour thereafter. Cut-off time is 12:30.
Entries are already open and runners can visit www.myactive.co.za to register. Entry fees are R130, R110 and R50 for the respective distances and temporary licenses are available at R25. No license is required for the 5 km.
“The event serves as fundraiser for various Rotary community projects, especially project Preserve Planet Earth which aims to protect and promote a sustainable environment. Water points will be available en route and food and refreshments will be sold at the finish line. Prizes will be awarded to the first three male and female finishers in their respective age categories. Some participants will also walk away with some big lucky draw prizes,” Gardner informed.
