Members of Gymstars Gymnastics Club recently participated in two competitions outside the province and judging by the large number of medals they brought home they are a force to be reckoned with.
The level 1 to 6 rhythmic girls attended the Wierda Invitational in Pretoria and the 34 participating Gymstars members won 24 gold and ten silver medals. They participated in 15 categories and attained a total of nine overall first place. These are Naya Chuma, Tricia Malungana, Kgodisho Maribeng, Cornia Claassens, Kwezi Lubisi, Corlette Sedikana, Karla Vorster, Micaela Wood and Lize van Ryneveld. Kgodisho and Kwezi were also announced best level 1 and level 2 gymnasts of the day respectively.
The gold medal winners are Ané Matthews, Iante Schoeman, Mignon Bronkhorst, Lené Prinsloo, Mphilo Twala, Nika Oosthuizen, Dominique Faul and Tapi Chuma while silver medals were awarded to Lethabo Ndlovu, Ilse Marais, Terri Manyowa, Naomi Ledwaba, Zama Mahlangu, Lesedi Maja, Mpho Moloto, Phuki Rasefate and Megan Bekker.
The Gymstars tumblers also attended their first competition hosted by Eagle Tumbling Club in Benoni. “They exceeded all expectations and took some top positions. Tumbling is an exciting new gymnastic discipline at Gymstars. I am thrilled with the standard of excellence displayed by gymnasts and tumblers. We may be a smaller club but these results indicate that we definitely maintain our ethos of quality over quantity,” Coach Lelanie Logtenberg said.
Tumblers Wessel Vorster, Wihan Logtenberg, Andru de Beer and Durandt Boshoff achieved gold medals.
