Local motorsport enthusiasts braved the cold to attend the annual Winter Trophy hosted at the Polokwane Oval on Saturday.
Spectators were in for a surprise when a new category, the Legends featured on the programme for the first time in the City of Stars. Seef Fourie finished first followed by Jordan Larsson and Lonika Maartens second and third respectively.
The regular categories did not lack in action or entertainment. Dylan van der Westhuizen, Megan-Lee Kotze and Connor Kuijers took the podium positions in the Ninja Midgets.
Sibling Roean and Roeline van Breda once again had a successful race finishing second and third with Allen Cunningham claiming first position in the Rookies category.
Stockrod driver Herman Nel beat Hennie de Koker, second, and and Jaco van der Merwe, third to the chequered flag. Pieter Ferreira gave his rivals a run for their money in the 1660 category leaving the second and third position open for Marnus du Plessis and JJ Fourie.
It came as no surprise when Roelof van Breda set the pace in the 2,1 litre Modified category and Desmond Bosch and Rudolf Durant had to settle for second and third place.
The Hotrods is always a highlight of any oval event and Nico Vorster, Wors Prinsloo and WF Weideman were unbeatable.
Charles Carlson finished first in the V8 Sprints category with Polokwane Oval Promoter Andries Marx taking second place leaving the first place open to Johan Beukes.
The Super Saloon category also made a comeback on Saturday with Johan Alberts senior racing his way to top position followed by Jack Smith and Joe Smith.
