A treat awaits local soccer enthusiasts when four matches in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge Premier Soccer League (PSL) Reserve League involving South African soccer giants, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Free State Stars, Platinum Stars, Chippa United, Polokwane City Football Club and Baroka Football Club are played at Seshego Stadium on 8 and 9 October.
The challenge was launched in August 2014 with endorsement from Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula.
It is a multi-pronged corporate social investment (CSI) programme initiated by the company with the aim of supporting development in football and broadcasting.
The programme includes a football competition for PSL academy clubs, life skills and leadership development for players, an internship programme to develop broadcasting skills amongst the youth, scholarships for players and production interns, as well as a chance for community television channels to broadcast the matches on the company’s digital satellite television service.
Media and Communications Coordinator at PSL, Fhatuwani Mpfuni said they are pleased to take the games to Seshego.
“We wanted to take them to Seshego last season but we could not because the stadium was still under construction. We were told the stadium is ready now and we will be visiting the venue to do the last inspection on Thursday,” Mpfuni said.
Spokesperson for Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA,) Mike Tauatsoala said they welcome all the participants, supporters and organisers to the province.
“The decision by the PSL to bring the games here confirms that Limpopo is a preferred sport destination. This is another boost to the sports tourism profile within the profile of the province.
We are calling upon the teams and supporter to take advantage of the various unique and iconic tourism offerings the province has to offer after long days in the fields. Our committed and dedicated officials will be on duty for information about various ideal packages on offer. The Hospitality and Service sectors will as usual open up their arms to assist all visitors that might be in need of any assistance during the sporting activities,” Tauatsoala said.
Programme:
On Saturday, 8 October, Free State Stars will play Platinum Stars at 11:00, while Mamelodi Sundowns will go up against Polokwane City Football Club at 13:00.
Sunday, 9 October will see Orlando Pirates take on Chippa United at 11:00 and Baroka Football Club will entertain Kaizer Chiefs at 13:00.
