Soccer lovers can look forward to the treat of a second a Limpopo derby this year when Baroka Football Club and Polokwane City Football Club meet in their first ever Premier Soccer League match at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

Baroka will certainly be looking for a second victory after beating City 2-0 in a quarterfinal clash of the Nedbank Cup in April.

Baroka Chief Executive Officer, Morgan Mammilla earlier this week expressed confidence that they could claim the scalps of their opponents on Sunday again. “We are just back from a 3-1 victory against Platinum Stars in the Telkom Knockout series and spirits are high in the team. Polokwane City has never given us problems, they have never scored more than three goals and we have the scoring ability. We have to win the match and we are adamant we will win the derby,” Mammila said.

He said the commitment shown by the new players at the team. “The new signees are doing well, Manashe Nzwanele scored a brace against Platinum Stars and Marshall Munetsi also scored.  We are happy with the progress they have made since being roped into the team,” Mammilla said.

Bafana Bafana and Polokwane City Football Club striker Thobani Mcwango said they wanted to redeem themselves against Baroka. “They beat us in the Nedbank Cup and that did not go well with us. We need to win the match and move into the top four of the league,” Mcwango said.

Baroka new player Tshepiso Leitsisa who won Man of the Match award against Platinum Stars in the Telkom knockout Cup last Sunday said he was happy with the prospect of playing in his first derby. “I hope to make it to the first eleven on Sunday and I think it is going to be an exciting match,” Leitsisa said.
