Despite their maiden loss of the 2017/18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season against Bidvest Wits last Sunday, Baroka Football Club remains confident ahead of the last 16 matches of the Telkom Knockout competition against Cape Town City Football Club set to take place at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
Since their promotion to the elite league two seasons ago, Baroka has never reached the quarterfinals of the competition.
Last season they were eliminated by the same Cape Town City in the last 16 round of the competition and went to become eventual winners of the competition.
Club Spokesperson, Jimmy Ngobeni said they will do better than last year in the competition. “We are doing well in the league and we want to take our form into the competition. We are a different team this season and everybody has noticed that. We are aware of the threat Cape Town City poses but we want to do well, win trophies for our fans and make them happy. Last season was a learning experience for us but this season we want to excel in everything we do,” Ngobeni said
He further stated that their 0-1 defeat against defending PSL Champions, Bidvest Wits was inevitable. “We went eight matches unbeaten and with that kind of form we became a team to beat. We don’t have a good record against them either and we wanted to break the cycle but it was not to be. We are still number one on the log and we will do everything to keep that position,” added Ngobeni.
Wits’ goal was scored by former African Warriors striker, Vincent Pule in the first half of the match.
