Former President of Limpopo Netball Association, Cecilia Molokwane was elected President of Netball South Africa (NSA) during the body’s elective conference in Gauteng on Saturday.
Molokwane, who replaces Mimi Mthethwa who held the position for 13 years, is the second woman from the province to take the position, the other being Mudtambi Ravele who served from 1999 till 2000.
In a short interview with Polokwane Observer on Tuesday, Molokwane said she was glad to have been elected and looking forward to the new challenge. “It means a lot to me and I am looking forward to take netball further,” she said. Molokwane holds a degree in Sport Management and Administration from the University of Limpopo
Abel Rakoma, Public Relations Officer of Limpopo Sport Confederations said they were confident that Molekwane’s election would spiral development of the sport in the province while also serving as great motivation to other codes and federations that hard work really pays off. “We wish her well and great success in her new endeavour with the hope that, given the conducive environment created for netball, she will indeed take the sport to the greatest heights. In the same breath, the confederation will give her undivided support and advice to ensure that through her appointment, Limpopo Netball should never be the same again,” Rakoma said.
Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Onicca Moloi said Molekwane’s new designation was confirmation that Limpopo is the home of champions. “We are happy to continue producing unparalleled credible leaders. We are excited to have one of our own in that position. She is equal to the task and we are saying to her she must represent the province well,” Moloi said.
