Local long distance runner, Rufus Photo demonstrated why he is still ranked among the best athletes in the province when he was first to reach the finish line of the Aïda Road Race held at Laerskool Pietersburg-Noord Primary on Saturday.
Photo, who is affiliated to KPMG, competed in the 15 km race for men open and finished first in a time of 54:54, he was followed by Emmanuel Ramahlale of Pietersburg Road Runners (PAC) in a time of 54:57 while Erasmus Parora from Run/Walk for Life settled for third spot in a time of 56:15.
In the 15 km women open, Rene Yiango of Pietersburg Athletic Club finished first in a time of 77:53. She was followed by Annelie Fuchs of Pietersburg Road Runners in a time of 84:01 and MB Mogeno, also from PAC in a time of 86:47.
In the 10 km race for men open, Lesiba Peu of Bedfordview Athletics Club beat his opponents to the finish line in a time of 32:03, followed by Charles Nonyana from Tzaneen Athletics Club (34:01) and independent runner Tshipo Maradona (36:05). Results for female participants in the 10 km race were being awaited at the time of going to print.
Race organiser Kobie Marais said they were happy with the turnout of nearly 500 athletes because the race grows annually. More results are as follows:

• Bobbie Sacco (50-59 years) – 68:11.
• Maripa Rametse (60-69 years) – 82:15.
15 km women

• Vhutshilo Makwarela (40-49

• Florence Mamabolo (50-59 years) – 93:20.
15 km
walkers
Men open
• Emmanuel Mukondeleli – 92:38.
• Jan Nkoana – 127:00.
