Limpopo Baobabs netball team’s head coach Jenne-lee Delport is convinced that her charges stand a good chance of competing for the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League title.
Delport said their recent victories against Mpumalanga Sunbirds, Northern Cape Diamonds and Eastern Cape Aloes have given the team a massive moral boost ahead of the last remaining matches in the second week of June. “We beat Sunbirds 46-44, we trashed Diamonds 66-36 and Aloes 40-30. Those were good results. We have never won a match against Aloes. They have always been our hoodoo team and we are happy to finally have won a match against them,” Delport said.
The team currently lies in sixth position of the league with six points while the Gauteng Jaquars are leading the pack with 12 points. “We are still in it. If we win the last three matches we will have 12 points which might give us the semi-final spot. It will be an historic moment for the team if we won all those remaining matches because the team has never reached that stage of the league before,” she said.
The team faces a stern test against KwaZulu-Natal Kingdom Stars, Gauteng Golden Fireballs and Western Cape Southern Stings in their last remaining matches of the League. “Those are tough opponents and there are the high scoring teams. As much as we did not have ample time to train like other teams, we believe in our ability. We have shown our capacity in the League and we can do well in the last remaining matches,” concluded Delport.
