Baroka Football Club’s deteriorating form in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has become a matter for serious concern among their supporters.
Since their victory in the Telkom Knockout Cup last December the team has been struggling to win their PSL matches.
Their last six matches of the league ended in draws against Bloemfontein Celtic, Chippa United, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. They further lost crucial points against Bidvest Wits and Black Leopards Football Club and now find themselves in an unsteady 14th position with 18 points after 20 matches.
Club spokesperson Richard Mashabane is however adamant that the club will be able to garner enough points to avoid relegation. “Relegation is not meant for us. We are doing well in the league.
The team is creating chances and it is unfortunate that we are not converting them,” Mashabane reasoned.
He also stated that they will not remove their head coach, Wedson Nyirenda from his position despite calls from supporters of the team who want to see the Zambian mentor vacating his post. “The coach is going nowhere. The supporters love him. Since he joined the club, he has done well,” Mashabane insisted.
Their next match is against Super Sport United Football at Lucas Moripe Stadium on
Saturday.
In their first round of the league the two teams played to a goalless draw at Peter Mokaba Stadium in October last year. “We played well against them in the first round. It is not going to be an easy match but we can promise our supporters that we will come back home with three points.”
