Cool weather created the perfect running conditions for the well over 2 600 athletes who competed in the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) 4-in-1 Marathon in the city on Saturday.
The race in known for luring scores of athletes from across the country as well as neighbouring countries to battle it out in the 42,2 km marathon and 21,1 km half-marathon while the 10 km and the 5 km route offer the best opportunity for the not-so-serious runners.
The CDM marathon is also a Comrades Marathon and Two Oceans Marathon qualifier which ensures tough competition between top runners as they not only compete for a podium position but also chasing the qualifying time.
According to Polokwane Athletic Club’s liaison officer Caryn Rathmann it has been the biggest turnout for the race and the club is pleased with the huge number of entries. The results were not available at the time of going to print and Rathmann indicated that the club and timekeepers would need at least two more days to finalise the results.
