Pietersburg Hoërskool Pietersburg alumnus Monique Potgieter was recently appointed as head coach of University of Limpopo’s (UL) hockey team.
The 31-year old holds a Level 1 coaching certificate in hockey and is currently working towards her Level 2.
Potgieter has coached several teams around Polokwane, including captaining Polokwane-based Ladies Club, now named Bosveld Ladies, in 2013.
She played for the South African Country Districts (SACD) for two years and she also managed the Provincial u.18 hockey team in 2014.
Apart from coaching, Potgieter says she occasionally enjoys umpiring which she has done, mostly as a hobby, since 2007.
She is currently the umpire manager for the primary schools in the Capricorn region. “I am the Capricorn District umpire manager. I coach the young and upcoming umpires and train them in all the tricks of the trade,” she explained.
Johannes Selepe, acting Senior Publications Practitioner Marketing and Communication at UL said they were happy to have someone like Potgieter as team coach. She is an experienced coach and I believe her expertise will lead the team to greater heights.”
