The Limpopo Netball Association recently announced the provincial netball team, the Baobabs, that will represent the province at the 2019 Netball Premier League.
The league is set to commence in May this year and the Baobabs will be hoping for a better and much improved performance.
The Baobabs finished the league in eighth position last year following after losing 56-32 to KwaZulu- Natal’s Kingdom Stars.
Head coach Anna Ledwaba believes they have selected a strong team that can help them to win silverware. “The team is a mixture of young and old quality players. Some have been there before and we will rely on their experience to guide the young ones,” Ledwaba said.
She pointed out that they want to improve in this year’s competition and fight for the top honours. “We want to win the league but it is not going to be easy. What we can promise our fans and the people of the province is that we will give our all in the league,” Ledwaba said.
The squad is expected to meet at Capricorn High School’s netball courts this weekend for a two-day camp in preparation for the league.
The selected players are Rumandi Potgieter, Grace Lechaba, Dakalo Tshikalala, Kamogelo Motsamai, Michelle de Nysschen, Dimakatso Maema, Tylona Williamson, Simone van Reenen, Nompumelelo Matekala, Sylvia Lebelo, Modjadji Ramorwalo, Kgothatso Mofomme, Shongile Hlongwane, Harmony Mongwe and Sibongile Shivuri.
President of Netball South Africa, Cecilia Molokwane, who hails from the province, has wished the squad well ahead of the league adventure.
“They have selected a good team and I believe they will compete successfully this season. We are looking forward to an exciting league this year. It is going to be bigger and better. Three invitational teams, Zimbabwe, the South African Spar Squad and the Male National Squad will join the league. They won’t be playing for the title but rather use the opportunity to prepare for international events,” Molokwane said.
