Polokwane Municipality’s annual Mayoral Road Race that was scheduled for 1 May, will now take place on Saturday, 27 April at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium and prizes to a total amount of R150 000 are up for grabs.
The race will cover distances of 42,2, 21,1, 10 and 5 km and registration fees are R220, R120, R80 and R50 for the respective races. Temporary licences will cost R30 and no licences are required for the 5 km run.
The race will start at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium at 06:00 for the 42,2 km distance, The 21,1 and 10 km races will start at 06:30 and the 5 km fun run at 08:00.
Online entries will be accepted from 2 April and closes on 23 April on www.boutime.co.za. Manual entries will open from 22 April on weekdays from 08:00 to 16:00 and on Friday, 26 April at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium (Polokwane Athletic Club) from 08:00 to 20:00.
No iPods or earphones will be allowed and all runners in the 10, 21,1 and 42,2 km races should either wear their permanent licences or register and display a temporary license. Runners may not display any advertising material on their clothing during the race. Official race numbers are to be displayed on the front and permanent or temporary licences on the back of the vests. Official numerical category tags must be displayed on the front and back of the running vest during the race. Category winners must be able to provide original ID and original birth certificates to prove age on request on the race day.
No cash prizes will be handed out on the day of the race and all winners are required to provide their banking details to allow for electronic payments. All athletes completing the races will receive medals and complimentary T-shirts will be issued to all runners.
Five of the build-up races for the event already took place, leaving only the last cluster event to be hosted at the Bana Bathari Special School in Sebayeng/Dikgale on Saturday. The race will start at 07:00 and distances of 5 and 10 km will be run. Entry is free and registrations are done between 06:00 and 07:00 on the days of the race. The first races were hosted during the last six weeks in the Mankweng, Moletjie, Seshego, Molepo/Maja/Chuene and Aganang clusters.
