All set for Mayoral Road Race on 27 April

The city streets are abuzz at nearly all hours with runners preparing for the Polokwane Municipality’s annual Mayoral Road Race that will take place on 27 April at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Prizes to a total amount of R150 000 can be won and each finisher, no matter the category, will receive a medal while complimentary T-shirts will be issued to all entrants.
The race will cover distances of 42,2, 21,1, 10 and 5 km and registration fees are R220, R120, R80 and R50 respectively. Temporary licences will cost R30 and no licences are required for the 5 km run.
The setters gun will be fired at 06:00 for the start of the 42,2 km at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium. The 21,1 and 10 km races will start at 06:30 and the 5 km fun run at 08:00.
Online entries have been accepted on www.boutime.co.za since Tuesday and close on 23 April. Manual entries will open from 22 April on weekdays from 08:00 to 16:00 and on Friday, 26 April at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium (Polokwane Athletics Club) from 08:00 to 20:00.
Athletes will not be allowed to wear iPods or earphones and all runners in the 10, 21,1 and 42,2 km races should either wear their permanent licences or register and display a temporary licence. Runners may not display any advertising material on their clothing during the race. Official race numbers are to be displayed on the front and permanent or temporary licences on the back of vests. Official numerical category tags must be displayed on the front and back of the running vest during the race.
No cash prizes will be handed out on the day of the race and all winners are required to provide their banking details to allow for electronic payments. Category winners must provide original ID and original birth certificates to prove age on request on the race day.
Six build-up races for the event have already taken place to promote awareness for the final event in the City cluster. The races were hosted during the last six weeks in the Mankweng, Moletjie, Seshego, Molepo/Maja/Chuene and Aganang clusters with the last one being hosted in the Sebayeng/Dikgale cluster on Saturday.
