Former Black Leopards Football Club striker, Moses Muthelo was appointed as the head coach of the u.12 Danone Nations Cup squad of Benny’s Sports and Development Academy last Thursday.
He takes over from Mbishi Mokwena who guided Benny’s to the Danone Nations Cup national title in 2016.The academy represented the country at the 2016 Danone Nations Cup World Finals in France where they finished in 14th position out of 32 countries that competed in the finals.
Muthelo has a Level 2 coaching certificate from South African Football Association and has already started preparing the team for for this year’s tournament which commences in June.
He said coaching young players is his passion and he is looking forward to help them to achieve their dreams. “We have a good team and I would like to help them to get to the world finals. This cup offers young soccer players a good platform to shine and I am looking forward to share my experience with the young ones.”
Registrations for this year’s competition opened in July last year and closed at the end of March.
Over 200 schools in the province registered for the tournament with the final berth of the competition in May.
Chantel Ehlers, Internal Communications, Danone Southern Africa was quoted to have said 20 countries will be competing in the 2019 Danone Nations Cup, which will coincide with Danone’s centenary year and the 20th anniversary of the Cup.
“To mark this important milestone Danone decided to combine the 2018 and 2019 tournaments. This also slots into our new brand purpose, ‘one planet one health’ which reflects our belief that the health of humankind and that of the planet are interlinked and both need to be protected and nurtured,” Ehlers said.
