The eighth Magoebaskloof MTB Challenge is set to take place at Hoërskool Merensky in Tzaneen on Saturday and mountain biking enthusiasts will still have time early morning on the day of the race to enter.
Latecomers will be accommodated from 06:00 until 30 minutes before the start of the race. The event will offer a 70 km race for serious riders while a 35 km route is available for moderate competitors. The races are set to start a 07:30 and 07:45 respectively. For social riders a 15 km race will start at 08:00.
Entry fees are R210, R150 and R80 respectively. Temporary licences for the 70 km and 35 km is also available at R35. No temporary licence is needed for the 15 km.
Water points will be available on all routes while visitors can enjoy food stalls and a beer garden at the school premises.
Medals will be awarded to all finishers and overall cash and attractive category prizes are up for grabs.
The route runs through the Tzaneen Dam Reserve before it crosses the Polisti River via a wooden bridge into orchards, saligna plantations and an indigenous forest. Plenty of forestry roads and single tracks will ensure a challenging yet scenic and fun event.
