Mega Athletics Club invites athletes to enter their relay league to be hosted at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on 28 September.
Organiser and athletics coach George Mehale explained that the event will apparently be the first of its kind to be hosted in Polokwane. “This is the perfect opportunity for athletes to test their abilities and showcase their talent when it comes to relay,” he said.
The event is scheduled to start at 09:00 and will consist of 100, 200, 400 and 800 m as well as
1,6 km items by teams of four athletes per team.
He explained that athletes will compete in different age groups such as 14 and 15 years, 16 and 17 years and 18 years and older. Entry fees amount to R120 per team per event. Podium winners will receive medals.
Spectators and visitors can enter free of charge.
Though the pre-entry deadline has already been reached teams will still have time to enter from 07:00 to 08:00 on the day of the event.
The event is hosted in line with the rules and regulations of Limpopo Athletics and Athletics South Africa. If a runner does not have a permanent licence a temporary licence costing R30 can be obtained at the venue.
“Our aim with the event is to get boys and girls excited about athletics. Limpopo athletics is dead and we have few athletes representing the country.
We invite schools and clubs to enter for the event and to show the country what Limpopo athletes are made off,” Mehale said.
