Local dancers off to international competition

Local dancers affiliated to the Fun Dance Company impressed the adjudicators at the South African regional competition called the American Dance Awards (ADA) in Pretoria recently to earn a place in the national team that is set to represent the country during an international competition scheduled for Orlando, Florida next year.
A total of 26 dancers battled it out against participants from the different provinces in acrobatics and managed to come home with a bag full of medals and special awards for their outstanding performances rendered by groups and individuals. Fun Dance Company educator Carina Froehlich indicated that ADA was an international dance competition for all dance styles.
She reiterated that they were happy that all the dancers from the institution made it to the national team. However, not all of them can afford to participate on an international stage due to financial difficulties.
This is according to Froehlich, as she mentioned that each dancer must cover travelling, accommodation and entry fees which cost about R35 000.
“Being chosen for the national team is a big achievement by itself and we are proud of our dancers. There has been a lot of growth since our first participation in the nationals last year and all the dancers did exceptionally well,” Froehlich explained.
