POLOKWANE – More than 4 000 runners from local and national local running clubs, as well as clubs from the Southern African Development Community Region are expected to participate in the 2023 SARun4Cancer marathon on October 28.

The marathon will see athletes competing in the following categories: 48km, 32km, 21km and 5km fun run.

According to Richard Bilisi, the chairperson of Mzansi Athletics Club, the organisers of the event, it’s all systems go for the event.

“The 48km race will start at the R71 from Steven Lumber Mills to the Peter Mokaba Stadium at 06:30. All runners will meet at the stadium from 05:00 to travel to the starting point.”

Bilisi said they have appointed 42 marshalls to man the various routes.

“There are 20 water points situated 2.5km apart, and enough replenishment for everyone. We have ensured that we have enough water, snacks and fruit. All finishers will receive medals. The cut-off time is seven hours.”

The SARun4Cancer started in 2018 by the Organisation SARun4Cancer.

The same organisation, led by Otshepeng Seelstse, partnered with the Mzansi Athletics Club to host the 2023 edition of the race.
