Run to save rhinos

The Polokwane Athletic Club will host the second Save the Rhino Training Run from its clubhouse at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday morning.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Athletic Club will host the second Save the Rhino Training Run from its clubhouse at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday morning.

Speaking on behalf of the club, Johan van Vuuren, said the entry fees would be donated to the Skukuza Marathon Club during the Skukuza half marathon in August.

“We must highlight that this is a training run and not an official race and there will therefore be no prize money and official timekeeping,” Van Vuuren said.

The race will start and finish at the clubhouse and both the 10 km and 5 km races will cost R30 to enter.

Each finisher will receive a medal or pocket badge. The 10 km race will start at 07:45 and follow a double lap around the two stadiums in Dorp Street with a waterpoint at 5 km and at the finish.

The 5 km race will start at 08:00 with a waterpoint at the finish.

The club’s social committee will host a champagne brunch after the training run, where hamburgers will also be sold at a very affordable price.

“We will also start a fire at the clubhouse for those who want to braai their own meat.”

“Please support this very charitable cause and help us collect a lot of money to save the rhinos. The race is open to everybody, so please challenge your friends and family to join in the social event,” Van Vuuren added.
