Matsetela now at helm of SA softball
Mashilo Matsetela of Mahwelereng Spikes is the new president of Softball South Africa

POLOKWANE – Mashilo Matsetela of Mahwelereng Spikes is the new president of Softball South Africa.
Matsetela was nominated by the Limpopo Softball Association (LSA) and recommended by the South African Softball Masters Association (SASMA) and the Gauteng Softball Association (GSA).
He announced in a post-election interview that he was prepared to shape the events at the highest echelons of the struggling sport.
“We have achieved the first milestone by having an elected leadership. The second matter is to get the administrative tag lifted by the SASCOC. What will make us really happy is to see SSA participate in international tournaments.
“Being the cousins of baseball, we want to host the African Baseball-Softball meeting as soon as possible. We want to lay a strong administrative foundation by establishing subcommittees.
Most fundamentally, we want to market softball through all available media platforms. We want to make softball more visible,” said Matsetela.
Matsetela takes over the reins of a structure which does not enjoy lucrative sponsorship compared to cricket, soccer or rugby, so the starting point will be to source sponsorship contracts.
“We want to create additional sources of funding and also development structures as this will enable our teams to perform better at international levels,” Matsetela explained.
Another luminary to climb the SSA ladder is Lebowakgomo Wild Beasts’ financial guru, Moloko Legodi. Like Matsetela, Legodi’s position was uncontested.
He was elected treasurer general after saving SSA from the abyss of absolute insolvency.
“There is an urgent need to increase revenue by looking for new opportunities,” said Legodi.
