Kubannek named King after knocking out Steyn

Paul Kubannek was crowned King of the Cage with a massive knockout in the very first round.

POLOKWANE – Paul Kubannek was crowned King of the Cage with a massive knockout in the very first round.

Kubannek was the winner of The Tini Eksteen Memorial Challenge King of the Cage Part One which took place at Eksteen’s Dojo on Saturday.

King of the Cage Part One

The event is part of the South African World International Martial Arts Association and Organisation Mixed Martial Arts (SA WIMAAO MMA) Championships and was hosted by Eksteen Promotions.

It was the 11th in the series of the Last Man Standing Ultimate Extreme Fighting Challenge.

Local fighters fought with all they had in the cage, but in the end only one fighter could be the King of the Cage and Kubannek was crowned the South African WIMAAO King of the Cage Champion.

He claimed the title in great style as he knocked out his opponent, Lukas Steyn, in the first round of his third bout.

The event was Kubannek’s 10th attempt in the Last Man Standing series, making him the longest survivor since the event was initiated in 2010.

There were also more categories for the spectators to enjoy including ladies bouts, the junior triple threat and the prelim pro/am bouts.

The other category winners of the event were Donovan Kotze in the 60-65 kg category, Fillie Venter in the 70-75 kg category, Moloko Rasetate in the junior triple threat boys bout and Pauline Pretorius in the ladies bout.

Eksteen Promotions is already planning for the King of the Cage Part Two event scheduled to take place in February 2016.

“We are planing to make another huge success of part two and hope to see everyone there to support these brave men and women,” said Henri Eksteen, SA WIMAAO, president; and Eksteen Promotions, CEO.
