Lim karatekas geared up for Shorin Kempo Championship

"This is a big tournament and it requires lots of preparation from the karatekas, both physical and mental" - Sensei, Molifi Koning Moloto

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Shorin Kempo Kaikan Karate Club have started with preparations before the Shorin Kempo International Championshipswhich will be held in Katlehong on 28 May.

According to Sensei, Molifi Koning Moloto, this is an annual event where the best karatekas from all walks of life compete to receive their various belts. He said the tournament will be attended by fighters from Zimbabwe, Botswana and Swaziland, even Thailand among many others.

“This is a big tournament and it requires lots of preparation from the karatekas, both physical and mental. It is a grueling championship and the competition is unforgiving. They have to be disciplined, passionate and work hard in order to become the best and be a part of the South African team. Experience and technique are essential and they need to master these before they can compete, especially to avoid injury when they compete.”

“We do our best to help the karatekas prepare before they enter the tournament so they can perform to the best of their ability and not feel rejected, but instead motivated to work harder if they do not manage to win the championship,” Moloto explained.

He says the Shorin Kempo International Championship was attended by around 700 karatekas last year and he believes the tournament will see even more coming to compete this year.
