Take part in the Ebenezer Mile this Saturday
The challenge caters for all age groups and people who swim for the fun of it, can opt for the easy 500 m fun course.
POLOKWANE – Swimmers are encouraged to put their swimming gear in order for the 25th Ebenezer Mile challenge which is expected to take place at the Mountain Yacht Club, Haenertsburg on Saturday, 18 March.
The Ebenezer Mile is an annual swimming event that was born from a brain-storming session of the Mountain Yacht Club in 1991.
The first Ebenezer Mile Swim was held in 1992. With the blessing of the late Modjadji, the Rain Queen, the dam has been restored to its former glory and the water levels are back to normal.
The event has become an annual affair certified by Swimming South Africa.
The event comprises a fun-filled day for both participants and spectators.
According to Ann Luther, Haenertsburg Rotary Public Relations Officer, the Ebenezer Mile was started by members of the Mountain Yacht Club during the drought of the 90’s when there wasn’t really enough water in Ebenezer Dam to sail enjoyably and it has grown from strength to strength since then.
“There are some swimmers who are fiercely competitive and super-fit for this sport and participate in the national open-water swimming circuit for their own personal achievements. They either swim the exclusive 3000 m or the popular Mile (1600m) or both,” explained Luther.
The Mile and 3 000 m online entries cost R145 and on-the-day registration is R170, while the 500 m online and on-the-day registration is R90.
There are discounts since the Ebenezer Mile will be celebrating its 25th anniversary: Family discount for online entries for three or more family members at R130 each while schools or teams with ten or more members pay R130 each for online entries.
