Racing to model car finals

Francois Wood may be new to the model car racing scene, but he is already preparing to take part in his first national competition.

POLOKWANE – “I started this sport about four months ago and it has since become something that I love doing,” Wood told Review. He said that racing model cars is something that is initially expensive, but once you own your car and all the required parts, it is an activity that can be great fun.

Francois Wood has only been racing model cars for a few months but loves the sport and will shortly be taking part in the National championship.

“I practice every weekend and it is a combination of great relaxation and part competition as you want to win and you want to be the fastest,” he said. He added that the sport can be enjoyed by the whole family as there are several father-and-son teams and they are often joined by family members who support them.

“The only drawback to the sport is when a car becomes outdated. Even though they can take a lot of punishment, they do break sometimes and, if the car is old, you need to build something to replace the broken part. But that is fun too,” he added.

Wood urges people of all ages to take up model car racing and have fun on both the on- and off-road track in Polokwane.
