Yin-Yang karatekas end the year in Japanese style

The Yin-Yang Karate and Self Defense Studio took its guests through a Japanese experience filled with chopsticks, Japanese flower arrangements and the smiling Buddha.

POLOKWANE – Their awards ceremony was held on December 3 and guests were entertained with a thrilling fire dance performance that lit up the evening sky.

Sensei Annatjie de Jager said because their karatekas could not go to Japan due to Covid-19, they thought of bringing Japan here to allow their guests to understand the rich history of karate.

“Karate is more than a sport, it is a way of life and living. One of the most important things we teach our learners is that they need to find a way to incorporate karate into their daily lives. Karate needs to be more than just what they practise at the dojo and needs to find expression in their daily lives. The karatekas we have here do well in academics and other activities and karate has an influence on that.”

She encouraged and thanked the parents. An award for the biggest family contribution was given to the Jansen van Rensburg family. The first place winners in the various categories received a floating trophy that will be kept in the club’s Hall of Fame along with one they can keep. Position two and three received certificates. Annatjie reminded the learners that even though they did not receive a certificate or a trophy, it did not mean that they were not good, just that they need to work harder to beat the winners.

“Let this be a challenge to each and everyone one of you that you need to set a goal for yourself and work towards it. The people who received awards here today should motivate you so that you can see yourself as a winner next year.”
