POLOKWANE – Supersport United earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in a Betway League clash on Saturday evening at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex.

The victory served as sweet revenge for United, who suffered a 4-0 defeat to Chiefs just two weeks earlier in the Carling Black Label match at the same venue.

Chiefs had only themselves to blame, squandering several clear chances throughout the game. Their key striker, Ranga Chivaviro, struggled under heavy marking by Nyiko Mobbie, leaving him unable to meet fans’ expectations. United’s goalkeeper, Thakasani Mbanjwa, made a crucial save in the 19th minute, bravely deflecting Gastón Sirino’s close-range volley for a corner.

The game briefly slowed as both teams studied each other’s tactics, but United began to control the midfield and launched more attacks. Thulani Hlatshwayo received a yellow card for a late challenge on Wandile Buba just before halftime. Moments later, United capitalised on their momentum when Tashreeq Morris fired a powerful shot from inside the box, securing the lead in the 44th minute.

Chiefs continued to falter in the second half. Mduduzi Shabalala missed a crucial chance in the 50th minute, shooting aimlessly instead of taking time to select a better option. Both teams made tactical substitutions, but the changes did little to alter the scoreline. Chiefs’ Reeve Frosler was also shown a yellow card for a reckless challenge on Vincent Pule.
