SIX rugby teams that are part of the Capricorn Rugby Schools League competed at the Seshego Stadium on Saturday.

The teams that competed were the George Morakula women’s team, the Mmaserole women’s team, the Mamarama men’s team, the Bokamoso men’s team and the Seshego and Bokamoso women’s teams.

Ignitious Semenya, Capricorn district community rugby coach and coordinator, said schools were committed to the league.

“There is a lot of talent in the province and I think most of the players stand a good chance of playing in professional leagues. Mamarama represented the province in Bloemfontein last year during a national schools rugby meeting,” Semenya said.

He said the province produced two players, Doreen Rakobela from Moletjie Ga-Ramakgaphola and Sara Ramoraswi from Mentz Ga-Mothiba, who were part of the women’s Springbok rugby team.

According to Semenya, rugby is not a popular sport in most rural areas, but the popularity of the sport is growing.

“Some parents like the sport and the support is growing.

“This encourages players to do well so that they can make their fa-milies proud.

“Rugby is a contact sport and one should get support and permission from the family before joining the sport.”
