Gospel group spreads word

Recording artist Lazzy Thobejane from Polokwane is the founder of a gospel group called Extreme Worship.

LIMPOPO – UPCOMING artists in Limpopo often face the challenge of getting a record deal and marketing their product, especially when there is a lack of resources and knowledge.

Recording artist Lazzy Thobejane from Polokwane is the founder of a gospel group called Extreme Worship. He said the group was dedicated to the youth because he wanted to offer them a platform where they could showcase their talent and stay away from negative activities. “As a producer I have learnt that gospel music is timeless and relevant to everyone, so this will make us popular in the market.”

He said they started in 2011 and worked on a project which was well received by the public so he wanted to make more good music for the fans. Thobejane said it was not only about singing but they also wanted to preach the gospel to the youth and encourage them to take part in activities that would help shape the nation.

“Extreme Worship is also a working opportunity because the money we make is distributed amongst the members,” he explained.

He said their second project, known as Project Jeremiah 29-11, had been well received so far. “The album has 18 tracks with a single release called Extreme Worship, which honours the group. It has also been receiving a lot of air play on the local radio stations, which we are very proud of.”

He said their music accommodated everyone because the team had members from different backgrounds and everyone brought in something unique. The group sings in Sepedi, Tshivenda, English, Xitsonga and IsiZulu.

Project Jeremiah 29-11 had six vocalists namely Aubrey Chionera, Dell-Peace Badejo, Sandile Ndlamini, Mary-ann Rontho, Rudzani Mudzielwana and Joy Maropola.

“I selected the vocalists who have worked on solo projects because I wanted to expose them to the masses. Luckily all of them were keen to join the group.”

Thobejane also said overall, the project consisted of 21 members who were energetic and always ready to deliver their best.

Speaking to Express, Chionera said he had joined the group last year and it had been a learning and fun experience to work in such a diverse environment. “We have done well within the province; my goal is that we get recognition across the borders of our province and touch lives everywhere.”

Extreme Worship will be recording a live DVD at Light of the Nations church in Polokwane on Saturday.
