Doctor arrested for possession of drugs

A 34-year-old doctor and his 27-year-old alleged accomplice are expected to appear in the Waterval Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday) after being arrested for possession of drugs at the doctor’s home outside Louis Trichardt yesterday (Wednesday).
They were arrested during sting operations across the provinces focussing on drug-related crimes.
Police followed-up on information which led a task team to the doctor’s house in Waterval where both were arrested. The doctor was doing community service in the area. Nine sachets of nyaope, four rocks (cat-cocaine), two smoking pipes and dagga were confiscated during the arrest.
In a second, unrelated incident Police arrested a 28-year-old suspect for dealing in drugs after 297 rocks valued at R14 850 and R1 302 in cash were confiscated, according to Ngoepe.
Also in Mahwelereng two suspects aged 27 and 54, were apprehended after found in possession of 111 sachets of dagga worth an estimated R2 220. The same bust also yielded R3 000 in cash.
Ngoepe indicated that such operations will continue throughout the province on a regular basis.
