Cean (20) is an enthusiastic teaching student who admires intellectuals. His role models include business magnate Elon Musk and philosopher Alan Watts. “My plan is to contribute to the younger generation in a way that shows them the possibilities they can achieve, and disregard the pessimistic social standards that society provides us as youth,” he says.
Michelle (16) says she aims to become a zoologist and her ultimate goal is to make a positive difference wherever she goes and in so doing change lives. “I believe in the words of author Erin van Vuren, ‘I will not be another flower, picked for my beauty and left to die, I will be wild, difficult to find and impossible to forget’,” she adds.
Nina Williams (25) is studying to be a teacher but admits that her true passion lies with modelling. She also enjoys expressing herself through reading, gaming and pop culture. “I am a person of many cultures, always open to new things and able to relate to all kinds of people. I am an optimist and always choose to look on the bright side of things,” she adds.
Lené (18) started modelling recently and has big dreams. “Modelling has given me a red carpet of classy confidence and has taught me to be dedicated, hard-working and passionate. No one is perfect, so be your own type of perfect.” She is an animal lover, enjoys jogging and loves to curl up and watch a good series.
Tshegofatso Masipa (21) aspires to inspire and empower the youth through words of faith. “This is my first try on the runway and there is so much to learn. I hope to be a top runway model one day and would like to encourage others to take a leap of faith and do what they have always wanted to do, as I did.”
Jané (19) describes herself as friendly and warm-hearted. “I believe there is no shortcut to success, you have to be the hardest worker in the room. Believing in yourself and your dreams will only get you halfway there.”
Kgaogelo (21) says she is no stranger to the comfort of solitude and she loves sketched portraits such as those by Humid Peach, which are her favourite. She lists her mother as her role model as “she is the epitome of strength and courage. Entering this competition has opened me up to the idea of doing modelling, particularly runway and I am excited about the journey to follow.”
Jordan (14) says she is a confident, creative, helpful and caring person who loves to travel and experience different and unusual places. “My hobbies are singing and playing the ukulele and I would like to learn to play the guitar and banjo. I also enjoy tennis and hockey. I started modelling this year and it has already taught me a lot about myself and given me confidence,” she says.
Rorisang (22) is a third-year law student at University of Limpopo. Actress Lupita Nyong’o is an inspiration to her as she believes they are kindred spirits in that they are both true African beauties. “Winning this competition will enable me to inspire other youngsters who lack confidence and determination and don’t know where to start. My message to them will be that it doesn’t matter where they come from or what is going on in their lives, their dreams are still achievable.”
Leola (14) loves art and photography and also enjoys mountain biking and playing the piano. Her role model is Victoria’s Secret model Behati Prinsloo from Namibia. “My favourite quote, which is anonymous, is ‘everyone wants happiness, nobody wants pain. But you can’t have a rainbow, without a little rain,’ and that is something I fully believe.”
Alice (22) takes pride in everything she does and describes herself as self confident and a goal setter who is a fitness coach. “TV presenter, singer and songwriter Nandi Madida is my role model as she inspired me to fill up my soul with experience and adventure, and that is what I intend to do throughout my life as well as try to inspire others to do the same.”
