A pageant to empower the community and local SMMEs
Dikeledi Monyebodi founded Mr and Miss Seshego five years ago and has since been working tirelessly to grow the brand.
POLOKWANE – “It started in the name of empowering young people and giving them a platform because there wasn’t much happening for them,” she explained.
She said that she started the pageant because she had seen the potential that lay within her community. “The youth within Seshego has potential and MMS offers them that platform where they can express themselves freely and hopefully build something that will outlive everybody involved in the production,” she said.
With over 10 years experience in marketing and event management, Dikeledi has worked towards ensuring that the pageant grows smaller businesses in and around Seshego. “We’re going to be giving back to the community in ways that will equip them for whatever they’re going to be faced with in the industry,” she said.
With this year’s pageant, the aim is to raise money for the computer centres within the community and buying school shoes for the needy. She said that this year’s pageant will be an elegant affair unlike anything that they have done before. “The difference from past years is the content of the show, it’s mission and vision has grown with time and it has matured along the way,” she added.
She added that this year it’s more community orientated and they are looking forward to building long lasting relationships with the SMME’s that are on board this year as part of the MMS 19 team. “We’ve opened up our doors to the public and we’re hoping to reach the community at large and get even more support from them than the years before,” she said.
“MMS’19 is looking to develop and equip the youth. This can’t be done alone as it requires a whole community and it’s local businesses and government departments to assist in the development of the pageant. We’re are also aiming for a skills program in the long run which is going to be run by local people who are qualified for such and is unemployed,” she concluded.
