September is in full swing with much to look forward to

From community projects, basaars, races and a potjiekos competition, there will be plenty to do this week.

POLOKWANE – September is a busy month in the city, so we will keep you updated on what you can look forward to on a weekly basis.

Thursday, 5 September:

Join the launch of Friends of Polokwane Game Reserve at Oosskool at 18:30. The launch aims to introduce the community to the objectives of this non-profit conservation organisation. Lisa Grossel from the WESSA Friends of Polokwane Nature Reserve and Nature’s Way Adventure Safaris explained that membership enrolment will also take place during the evening and light refreshments will be enjoyed after the presentations. “This evening is a must for anyone and everyone who has an affinity with the reserve, and is interested in its survival, for the sake of future generations.” For further information, contact Lisa at 083 380 2322 or email her at at naturesway@telkomsa.net or 083 380 2322.

Friday, 6 September:

Give heaps of hope with Bags of Hope between 08:00 and 15:00 at Oosskool. Gather any of the following items: Non-perishable food, clothes, cleaning materials, toiletries, furniture, toys, or linen.

Bring your bags filled with hope to the rugby field. Show you care by making a difference. Company banners and flags are welcome. For more information contact Dia van Staden at 083 726 1180.

Saturday, 7 September

• Lentebasaar at 07:30 at N.G. Kerk Renosterpoort on the corner of Hill and Pietersburgstraat. There will be fresh vegetables and meat available with card facilities. There will be cakes, pancakes and desert available. Breakfast will be served from 08:00 to 11:00. For more information, contact Erika at(015) 293 2882 or 082 445 8206.

• APK basaar from 08:00 at the church in Die Meer Street, closest corner Magazyn Street. There will be breakfast, meat, biltong, vegetables and lots more as well as a white elephant table. Order breakfast at 082 349 8700.

• Polokwane Pedallers Cycling Club hosts a Lentetrap at the Game Reserve at 08:00. Pre-entries close on Wednesday, 4 September. To join in the fun, the 72 km marathon costs R220 and will start at 08:00; the half-marathon of 36 km starts at 08:15 at a cost of R170 and the fun ride of 16 km starts at 08:30 at a cost of R70. A day license costs R35. Medals will be handed out to all cyclists who finish the race. Remember: no helmet, no ride.

• Pot of Hope Potjiekos competition will take place at Cansa offices, College Street from 09:00. Entries are R150 and you stand the chance to win a holiday to one of the wonders in Africa. Contact Christopher for more information at 072 681 1949.

• The Gereformeerde Kerk Pietersburg invite all women to a Spring tea at Taberna Dei on the corner of Webster- and Jorissenstreet at 09:30 for 10:00. The guest speaker will be Mari Laas, and the theme is “Innerlike seën wys na buite… as ons geestelik sterk is, sal ons hande vir die Here werk.” Tickets are available at R100 per person from Marie Seegers (082 460 8264) or Sarie Bronkhorst (082 819 9164).

• The Hanlie Steyn Memorial Race takes place at the Polokwane Rugby C field next to Peter Mokaba Stadium. Runners can enter on Friday, 6 September from 16:30 to 19:00 and Saturday morning from 05:00 to 06:30.

Starting times are 06:30 for the 10 km and the 21.1 km and 06:40 for the 5 km. Entry fees are R40 for the 5 Km, R70 for the 10 km and R100 for the 21.1 km. All finishers will receive a medal. For more information, contact 084 400 6667.
