Deacon murders: Domestic worker and accomplice in court today
The duo were arrested on Friday morning during a joint operation by the police and private security companies.
POLOKWANE – A woman and a man implicated in the murder of Ocean Basket owner, Lizette Deacon and her mother, Hettie appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today following their arrest on Friday. Their case was postponed to 25 September.
Sophie Mmako (51) , who was employed by the deceased as a domestic worker, was arrested in Polokwane at about 08:00 and her boyfriend, Lazarus Mahlo (41) was arrested in Ivory Park, Thembisa at about 09:00.
The duo face charges of two counts of murder, house robbery and kidnapping.
Their co-accused, Advance Amid (30) and Casper Mudau (35), were remanded in custody on Tuesday and will appear in the same court on Friday, 25 September. The duo were arrested on Sunday, 13 September in Mookgophong and Polokwane, respectively.
They face charges of murder, two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances and a charge of contravening the immigration law. A charge of kidnapping will in all likelihood be added.
Police are in the meantime calling on a person called Owen (pictured below), to avail himself at the nearest police station as it is believed he might assist in the ongoing investigations. Owen, who is a Zimbabwean, uses either of the following as surnames; Setsiba, Makutara or Mbedzi.
