Local Samaritan Lindie van der Merwe together with a privately owned local designer bakery treated residents at the Association for People with Disabilities (APD) to an eventful winter warmer day last Wednesday.
Attendees engaged in singing and dancing competitions and later enjoyed cupcakes and hot chocolate donated by the bakery company.
Van der Merwe indicated that she hosts such gatherings once a term to entertain and play with APD residents. The activities include games, reading and painting, she said
She revealed that she depends on donations from family, friends and the public to make gatherings a success.
“I just love working with APD residents. They are special and there is never a dull movement with them. I am an ordinary Polokwane resident who is passionate about charity work,” Van der Merwe said.
APD representative Rita Groenewald stated that it was fascinating to see that there are people who still care about disabled people. She thanked Van der Merwe and the bakery company for convening such a fun filled gathering, adding that she hopes more people would follow suit and donate to the centre.
