SAPS hold successful operation in Cullinan and Ekangala

Law enforcers nab 546 in one day.

The Tshwane police apprehended 546 suspects for various crimes in several operations in Cullinan and Ekangala on April 28.

Various agencies, such as the Department of Home Affairs and Labour, the Gauteng Traffic Department, the TMPD, CPFs and members from various SAPS stations in the Tshwane policing area conducted the operations involving high-visibility patrols in crime hotspots, compliance inspections and raids on illicit liquor outlets.

Officers arrested 253 individuals for offences such as assault, housebreaking, public drinking, driving under the influence of alcohol and armed robbery.

Tshwane detectives arrested about 230 suspects, including 56 individuals for GBV, two for attempted murder, four for armed robbery and one for sexual assault.


A car is inspected to check its status to see if it was stolen.

Four tactical uniformed groups were deployed to police the Atteridgeville, Cullinan, Ekangala and Rietgat areas.

The tactical teams inspected 12 liquor premises, identifying seven as non-compliant with the liquor regulations.

Officers confiscated 170 642ml of liquor, a gambling machine and 1 980 illegal cigarettes, which will be destroyed pending finalisation of the criminal cases.

Additionally, they detained 31 undocumented immigrants for deportation pending the conclusion of legal processes and arrested 20 individuals for public drinking.

Throughout the operation, officers searched 668 people and inspected 298 vehicles, of which they checked five for stolen status.

Officers arrested nine people for driving under the influence of alcohol.

They searched 28 premises during this operation, which saw officers arrest two suspects for theft, of which they linked one to a case reported in Cullinan in 2023.

They issued 15 Aarto infringement fines totalling R41 250.
