eMBALENHLE – The Mpumalanga Department of Education has not yet explained how an error on their website regarding the matric pass rate of the Thomas Nhlabathi Secondary School happened.
It said the school obtained 34 per cent and was among the 12 schools that performed below 40 per cent in the province.
The National Department of Basic Education, however, said the school obtained 79 per cent and Mr King Masondo, principal, also confirmed that.
The Ridge Times requested a comment from officials from the regional and provincial department in the past two weeks about the error, but no formal statement was released.
Some of the officials said it was an error and was rectified.
The results were removed from the department’s website.
The error has put the school in a negative light.
The Ridge Times has also established that the school was among the top performing schools in the township and was followed by Sizwakele Secondary School with 76 per cent, Kiriyatswane Secondary School with 71 per cent, Kusasalethu Comprehensive with 70 per cent, KI Thwala Secondary School with 66 per cent and Osizweni Secondary School with 62 per cent.
