eMBALENHLE – The writing on a wall inside one of the local police cells, “See me no more”, have inspired Nomphumelo Lukhele, a Grade 7 pupil from Roodebank Primary School, to not thinking of committing crime.
She was among the pupils from her school who visited the police station as part of the Take a Girl Child to Work Campaign on Thursday, 26 June.
The girls were taken on a tour through the community service centre, the police cells and various other units at the police station.
They were introduced to various career opportunities in the police.
The girls were also given the opportunity to interact with officers who inspired them about their value and who reassured them that everything is possible through hard work, dedication and passion.
They also received safety hints.
Ms Nozipho Sibiya, teacher, said this was the first time that her school took part in the campaign since it was initiated in 2003.
“The campaign will make a difference to the pupils, because it exposed them to the world of work and the wide range of career opportunities available to them in the public service.”
