Hoërskool George Hofmeyr held a Motivation Day for the Grade 12 pupils on 30 May.
After a flag-raising ceremony involving the national and school flag, Rev X Luphondo began proceedings.
He referred to King Hezekiah in the Bible and his message was not to die before you realise your dreams.
With regards to achieving you dreams one should use the three ‘d’ policy, decision, discipline and determination.
The circuit manager of the Department of Education, Ms Ndlovu, then welcomed the pupils present and urged them to achieve a 100 per cent pass rate, not only to pass, but to achieve entry to university.
She said the department was not only there to motivate, but to help in any way possible for them to achieve their dreams.
Mr Pieter Bester, headmaster, referred to Psalm 23 and said potential was nothing if you did nothing with it.
He told the pupils that if they wanted to tread deep tracks, they must first put on their working boots.
He also referred to what he called the six ‘p’ rule, proper preparation prevents pitiful poor performance.
Mr Mandla Mphuthi of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, urged the pupils not blame their circumstances when trying to achieve their goals.
He has been stabbed, shot at and even been in a car smash, but not allowed this to stop him achieving his dreams.
There was even a quality surveyor that was asked to say a few words.
He urged the pupils to act now and choose a career path and not wait till it is too late.
“The opportunity is out there and you must grab it with both hands,” he said.
He told the pupils what a quality surveyor does and emphasised the importance of mathematics.
Mr Gert Maritz, headmaster of Laerskool Jeugkrag, then thanked everyone for their involvement during the day.
He said that they must take responsibility for their choices and that life owes them nothing, they owe life.
“A matric certificate is the most important certificate that you will receive because it is the first thing that is asked for when applying for a job,” he also said.
The national anthem was then sung by all to close proceedings.
