Leandra licence department should be reopened

LEANDRA – Residents are complaining that the registration and licence department is not operating after all the computers were stolen.

The desk top computers which were stolen during the first week of March have not yet been replaced and people who want to book for their learner’s and driver’s licences are told to book in Secunda.

“The information we got is that we should book in Secunda, but that we will be tested in Eendracht,” said a resident.

They were however surprised when they arrived in Secunda and were told they will be tested in Secunda.

People who were booked and tested in Secunda, said they were unhappy with the arrangements because in Secunda they use computers and in Eendracht it is manually.

“I have never used a computer in my life and I was tested with it.”

“There is no way I would have passed and when I told them that I do not know how to use a computer, they said I must stop irritating them.”

Other residents said they do not have the money to go to Secunda and wanted to know why they were booked to be tested in Secunda while others were booked to be tested in Leandra.

Some also said they were surprised that the son of one of the testers at the Eendracht licence department is working for a driving school.

“All those who come with her son for testing, pass because she is testing them.”

A resident said the mother owns the driving school, but she does not want people to know that it is hers.

The government is also accused of doing nothing about residents’ complaints, because people had submitted affidavits about corruption taking place at the traffic department and nothing was done.

Residents said the offices are often closed the whole day and at times they are open, but they turn people away and tell them to go to Secunda.

The newspaper have tried in vain to get a comment from the municipality.
