DA, churches and community pray together
People unite in prayer at Secunda Police Station.
SECUNDA – Members and councillors of the DA celebrated Freedom Day by organising a prayer meeting at the Secunda Police Station on Saturday, 25 April.
The public and representatives of several churches also attended the meeting and Capt Johan Smit prayed against Xenophobia.
Mr Themba Lawrence Mlotsha, DA Govan Mbeki Constituency Deputy Chairman, said: “Today, we stand here as ashamed South Africans.
“We are ashamed of the scourge of violence that has been directed at foreign nationals living in South Africa.
“As the saying goes: ‘Evil triumphs when good men do nothing’.
“We have decided to come here today, on South Africa’s Freedom Day, to emphasise that we are all free to live in this country, South Africans and foreign nationals alike.
“We declare Xenophobia as a sickness that must be eradicated.
“We are also here to thank God for not letting the insensible Xenophobic attacks reach our beloved Govan Mbeki municipal boundaries.
“We also pray for the police who in the end have to take steps to calm down violent situations.
“We wish God to grant them strength, protection and wisdom to handle these.
“Today, tomorrow and forever, the DA declares war on Xenophobia.”
