Children have rights
Local day care centre commemorated Child Protection Week on 29 May.
The Sizanani Day Care Centre commemorated Child Protection Week on 29 May.
Parents were invited and educated about children’s rights and the centre requested them to act against violence directed to children in the community.
They encouraged parents to look after their children and listen to them.
The toddlers did some activities condemning violence against children.
The week is commemorated annually to raise awareness of the rights of children as articulated in the Children’s Act of 2005.
The campaign, that began in 1997, is aimed at mobilising all sectors of society to ensure care and protection of all children.
Section 28 in the Constitution of South Africa is devoted to children and outlines their rights.
