Cattle roaming streets against by-laws
Municipality encourages people to report cattle walking in town.
SECUNDA – Govan Mbeki Municipality said nobody is authorised to keep any livestock other than poultry in any area defined by the municipality as unsuitable for the keeping of livestock.
“This is according to the municipal by-laws relating to the keeping of animals, birds and poultry, and businesses involving the keeping of animals, birds, poultry or pets as promulgated in November 2014 under notice number 2385.
“It further orders that livestock should be kept on land that is not less than 1 hectares in extent with specific premises requirements.”
This came after residents complained about cattle roaming the streets of Secunda.
“The municipality encouraged people to report all roaming livestock as it transgresses the said by-laws of which the municipality has established a by-law enforcement unit and a municipal court for the purpose of monitoring the adherence to all municipal by-laws and prosecution of the transgressors.”
